Mali Sends Additional Soldiers To Fight Touareg Rebels

The Malian army says it has deployed additional troops in an area of the country where Touareg rebels are attacking military bases.

A military statement did not give details about Sunday's fighting in the city of Lere, in the Tombouctou region.

According to a post of the High Council for the #Azawad Unit (HCUA), two (2) #Mali🇲🇱 warplanes were shot down, on Sunday 17 September 2023 in #Lère/Toumbouctou, by machine guns of the Azawadi Armed Forces (FAA).

On Monday, the Malian troops killed several rebels and recaptured Lere from the rebels.

The statement claimed that recent military operations had significantly reduced "terrorist threat".
