By Editor

President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa has just apologised to Nigeria over the xenophobic attacks in his country.

The apology was delivered to President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja on Monday by Ramaphosa’s special envoy, Mr Jeff Radebe.

A meeting between Buhari and Radebe has just ended at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

This comes a day after Ramaphosa disclosed that he will be a sending a team of special envoys to some African countries in a move seen as pacification.

The team of special envoys also includes Ambassador Kingsley Mmabolo, and Dr Khulu Mbatha, and they are expected to visit to also Niger, Ghana, Senegal, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia.

Recall that xenophobic attacks broke out in recent weeks in South Africa after a taxi driver was killed by an alleged drug dealer in Pretoria.

This urgent action of the South African leader may not be unconnected to his being jeered at on Saturday at the burial of former Zimbabwe President, Robert Mugabe, where he had apologised for the attacks in his country.

Ramaphosa, many feel has not demonstrated proactive actions in addressing the series of xenophobic attacks in his country over the years.
