Atiku On Same Page With Benue On Ranching - Ortom

By Editor

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, yesterday reiterated his appeal to the electorate in the state to vote massively for the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, saying that he was on the same page with them on ranching.

He spoke at his reelection campaign rallies at Ugba and Zaki-Biam in Logo and Ukum Local Government areas.
Governor Ortom stated that while President Muhammadu Buhari was canvassing for the opening up of cattle routes which will impact negatively on the land of the people of the state if implemented, Alhaji Atiku has been establishing ranches for his cattle and even proceeded to build feedmills.
He stated that ranching was critical to the survival of the state as it remained the best solution to the incessant crises between farmers and herders with monumental loss of human lives and property over the years such that the people should vote against those who opposed it.
The Governor stated that besides the fact that the PDP Presidential candidate had a long standing relationship with the Benue people who conferred a chieftaincy title on him years back he also believed in the corporate existence of Nigeria and was not a religious fundamentalist.
While urging the people to vote for all candidates of the party at this year's polls he maintained that the PDP was a better alternative after its apology to Nigerians for its wrongdoings, reformation and repositioning.
His predecessor and Benue North East Senatorial candidate, Dr Gabriel Suswam, also called on the people to reelect Governor Ortom for what he described as his uncommon demonstration of courage for the protection of their interest.
The former Governor stated that it was rare for a governor to defect from the ruling party and pitch tent with the opposition adding that such a move to stand with the people when it mattered most should be rewarded with a renewed mandate. He stressed that if the electorate abandoned Governor Ortom at the polls no one would endanger his or her life to champion their interests.
Dr. Suswam stated that the survival of the people was at stake during the next elections and that they must make maximum use of the opportunity by voting for all the candidates of the PDP who will guarantee their safety.
Governor Ortom and his entourage interacted with traditional rulers and members of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, who assured him of their support, at separate venues in the places visited before addressing the rallies.
Highlights of the tour included the decamping of prominent members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, into the PDP including one time governorship candidate, Terver Kakih and former member of the State Assemby Dan Abbagu.
