Born to a peasant farmer and a church Leader, Hon. James Melvin Ejeh hails from a small village called Atakpa in Agatu local government area of Benue State.
Hon. Ejeh who started his career as a Public Servant in the Federal Ministry of Interior between 2001 to 2014, is greatly loved by his Colleagues and admired by the generality of people who came across him during his days in service.
It was Jim Rohn who once said "If you are not willing to risk the usual, you will have to settle for the ordinary". Thus and spurred by his burning desire to have a healthy society and humanity, the cool headed Melvin resigned from the Public Service in 2014, abandoning his comfort zone as a monthly salary earner. It was a risk family, friends and colleagues saw as uncalculated, but the ever courageous and determined Melvin's response then was, "I want to live a life of purpose and my purpose in life is to serve humanity."
True to his words, he joined the humanitarian sector and founded a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) called Global Peace and Life Rescue Initiative (GOPRI) in 2014, which he oversees as the Executive Director.
Between 2015 to present moment the NGO has worked on 28 projects within 19 states of Nigeria and other neighbouring African countries, ravaged by crises.
As a result of his humanitarian exploits the United Nations accorded him global recognition when it made him the UN Peace Ambassador.
It will be recalled that even before declaring his intention to represent the good people of Apa /Agatu at the House of Representatives, Hon. James Melvin Ejeh was already a household name that reverberates not just in Apa/Agatu and Benue but Nigeria as a whole. This is as a result of the significant role he played and still playing during the Fulani herdsmen attacks on Agatu and other Benue Communities.
He influenced the presence of the global media and the UN Red Cross Society to Agatu to see what was happening, ensuring that the wounded got medical attention and other basic assistance. His NGO was also on ground doing the needs assessment of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). Thereafter, various relief materials worth millions of naira were distributed to the IDP camps in the local government headquarters of Apa and Agatu.
With his intention for contesting in the Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency seat anchored on raising a generation that is empowered, motivated, stirred to operate with natural excellence and people centered liberation from all forms of backwardness, it was little surprise that the generality of his people decided to support his aspiration: a feat that no Aspirant from the area ever got during political campaigns and consultations.
While giving their reasons for throwing their overwhelming support to Hon. James Melvin Ejeh's candidacy, Representatives of the people disclosed that they are moved and believes in his style of politics, which involves directly interfacing with the people even in interior of villages with terrible terrains, instead of sending representatives as was the practice in the Constituency.
As always the case of good journeys which are not without battles, Hon. James Melvin Ejeh has had a fair share of some as there was one of monetary offer to cede his ticket to another of hitting below the belt and to another of outright threat. But like the rock of Gibraltar, he has remained resolute, focused and determined with his eyes fixed on the crown, which is certain. To him, the struggle to liberate the Constituency is beyond him and divine which is why he will and can never cede or sell his Social Democratic Party(SDP) ticket for anything or anyone in the world.
As the General Elections are fast approaching it is the desire and believe of all and sundry who are desirous of a positive change in the Constituency that the most credible, sincere, humble and develop
ment -oriented candidate for the Apa/Agatu contest, Hon. James Melvin Ejeh emerges winner at the polls. This, Political Analysts observe that, if Apa/Agatu must be great, then a selfless leader who stands as a bridge between all class of people with a development mind, which James Melvin Ejeh is one should be sent to the Green Chambers.
