A major milestone has has been recorded by the
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Benue as the state governor, Samuel Ortom
officially dumped his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC for the PDP. The
governor announced his defection on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at the Government
House.
By this development, Benue State which since 2015 had been governed by
the APC is now a PDP state.
The governor’s announcement brings to end months of
speculation that the governor will return to the PDP as a result of his
disagreement with leaders of the APC in the state and at the national level
despite several interventions to bring warring party to a truce.
His defection comes on the heels of the impeachment
of the State Assembly Speaker and his Deputy as well as some principal officers
of the assembly, yesterday, July 24, 2018.
